Bristol

Posted on October 21, 2017October 21, 2017

I’m sitting in a cafe in Bristol waiting for my bus to the next city. Bristol was alright, it’s known for live music, cool graffiti, and cider. I’m not a huge fan of live music, I’d rather talk to the people I’m sitting with than try to shout over some band that’s way to loud. But the graffiti is cool.

i visited a pub that’s a bit famous for its cider that you can only get from the tap inside. Admittedly it was pretty good, but they only served “half pint’s” (that looked a lot more like 1/3 pints to be honest). I found a gaming cafe and played a few games of dota, I lost most of them but I’m blaming the unfamiliar keyboard for that. Still it was fun to play with my friends in Canada.

next stop was going to be a few more English cities, but I’ve changed my mind. I really want to go to Edinburgh. So I’m spending one more night in Bristol, then heading out tomorrow for Scotland

im trying to plan out what I want to do after the UK and Ireland, and man it’s tough. What a problem to have though. I’ve basically got 4-5 schools of thought at the moment, though some are a little more “out there” than others.

1.) Rome

this would let me check out Italy and Southern Europe. Rome is super historic and I could see some really cool things + it’s close to Switzerland, and Zurich in November would be really cool to see.

2.) Athens

Greece, like Rome has a ton of really cool history to see. It’s also close to the Balkans, which are actually nicer than you would think and really cheap. I could go to Bosnia after and see Sarajevo.

3.) Copenhagen or Stockholm

scandinavia on the winter would also be so cool to see. Like Switzerland, they’re expensive but it would still be neat. I could go see the northern lights and still be close to Europe once I get tired of Scandinavian prices.

4.) Reykjavik

This one is a little out there, but I keep hearing great things about Iceland. It’s feasible I could end my trip there in December and fly from Iceland to Vancouver when I’m done.

People who’ve travelled, you guys got any reccomendations?

Tough having such a problem…..you still have years to travel so just decide what you want most.
You might want to think of the weather…Roma & Athens definitely warmer….very historic….if you go to Rome you also might want to visit Pisa and Florence also Venice . I liked Athens but both your mom and I liked the islands better…and traveling on Greek ferries is an experience in itself.
I have never been to Reykjavik..it’s still on my bucket list..and they say the northern lights there are spectacular…they also have non stop flights to YVR so that could be your final stop on the way home….you might need to buy a jacket though..especially if you’re there in December.
I really think you have caught the travel bug James …and I hate to tell you but it is incurable !
    Enjoy !

Glad you are having a good trip. I did not like Venice but I did like Nice. You definitely should have Pisa on your schedule. I hope you will be able to climb up the tower. I did 50 years ago but I have heard that they have closed it and then again I heard it was open. In Italy you will have to change your diet from beer to wine.
I think you should enjoy Ireland, especially the scenery. Scotland is beautiful also. Continue to have the trip of your lifetime and stay safe.

Been following your travels, James. I liked your comments about Hastings and Battle. I have stayed in both places when I did a pub crawl with Jim Palmer and my friend James Loweth. Still have some photos from there. Enjoy your travels!
