i met up with a girl from New York in the morning yesterday, we both wanted to see the Crown Jewels in The Tower of London so we went together. It’s another place and a bit pricy to get into, but it was definitely worth it.
i thought it would be just a tower and that’s it, but it turns out it’s actually a whole place with different towers and walls and carvings on the walls from prisoners 400 years ago. Really neat. Of course they have a bunch of crowns and other shinys that have been used over the years. It was hard to remember that it wasn’t costume jewelry since it was so colour full and over the top. My favourite exchange from the day after seeing a large gold tub thing in a display case near the crowns:
“oh wow, I wonder if that’s where they do like royal baptisms and stuff?”
*reads sign*
“nope, that’s the grand punch bowl”
That place had so many cool souvenirs, it hurt a little bit to leave some of the mugs behind. Oh well there will be more cool mugs closer to the end of the trip. They also had a set of armour that belong to a guy named sir John of gaunt. He was 7’3″, I’m pretty sure if I saw that guy wanting to fight me, I’d just take the L and go home to rethink my life. There’s a picture a little lower.
After that, we walked across the tower bridge, got some food and then just walked along the river Thames for a bit. We found London Bridge, it was pretty average looking.
it was pretty neat, we found a tunnel where graffiti is legal, so people were painting all sorts of stuff there. Really cool.
after that we trained a little ways away so I could meet my Mom’s coworkers brother, who I had my train pass shipped to. He was really nice.
we ended the day off with some food before heading back to the hostile. That was a long day, I fell asleep at 10:30pm
