hey guys, I’m still alive.
Normally I’ll write updates when I settle down in my hostel for the night, but lately I’ve been falling asleep as soon as I hit my bed. Anyways picking up where I left off.
The tour departed from the Isle of Skye and set towards the town of Oban. It’s a smallish coastal town that’s famous for the Oban scotch distillery. We went to a traditional Scottish party with a weird name I’m forgetting, they had bagpipes and everything, so that was pretty cool. The next day was supposed to be the last day of the tour where we would head back to Edinburgh, but I was enjoying Oban a lot, so I told the tour to go on without me and I would spend an extra 2 days there. That was a great decision, I toured the distillery, which is a much better tour than the Tomatin distillery, and generally enjoyed being in a harbour town. I even got a whisky glass with my name and the date etched onto it. I spent Halloween there and found a fun bar to chill out in before grabbing a train to Edinburgh.
Edinburgh is a really cool city. The old town is in an area known as the royal mile because it stretches from Edinburgh Castle to the palace at the bottom. There is tons of history there, I did 2 free walking tours and still felt like there was more to do. I visited a place called “the scotch whisky experience” and got to see the largest scotch collection in the world, followed by a tutored tasting of four different scotches. It was really cool and definitely worth it. I visited a few Scottish pubs, they were pretty neat, but I think England and Ireland have them beat as far as pubs go. I was convinced that there is nobody harder to understand in the world than a drunk scot, but I’ve recently spoken to an elderly Irishman who gave them a run for their money.
ive been in Ireland for about 6 days now, I’ll post about that in not too long.
