Hello!
i haven’t made any uploads in longer than I wanted to. I kind of had other priorities during Oktoberfest and I haven’t been able to find good wifi to upload pictures until now. But now I’m at my hostel so I can get back at it.
After Vienna, me and the Aussies headed to Budapest. We got an AirBnB right in the middle of the city so that was awesome. I really like Budapest, it’s super cheap, but it still felt pretty nice. We checked out the Hungarian parliament building which I’m pretty sure is the coolest building I’ve seen so far. Of course, after seeing one side of it, we wanted to see the other side, so we walked all the way across the bridge to see it from the far side of the fiber, it still looked awesome. Then we checked out buda castle, and hiked up the hill that overlooks the city, it was really cool. After that we went to our hostel and got some food, before deciding we also wanted to see the building at night time… From both sides, so we did the whole round trip again. I walked something like 45000 steps that day. It was tiring.
the next day, the Aussies wanted to go check out some of the ruin bars Budapest is famous for on our last day before we were supposed to leave for Amsterdam. The ruin bars were amazing. Essentially they took some old derelict buildings and converted them into bars with a really cool aesthetic. But it was neat because it wasn’t just one building. Each establishment contains multiple buildings and what was previously the road between them. Really neat.
The next day, the Aussies were going to bed to Amsterdam before going to Munich. The original plan was for me to go with them, but they liked to party pretty hard and I was still sick, so I elected to meet them in Munich and spend some time relaxing by myself in Budapest. My days alone were pretty uneventful, I went to some cafe’s, I drank coffee, I slept, I coughed a lot. It was a bit interesting, I guess Tylenol has a different name in Europe, so trying to find it at a Hungarian pharmacy was a bit of a challenge, I figured it out eventually though. I got myself to I’d say about 85% Healthy before it was time to go to Munich.
I arrived at my camp site for Oktoberfest to find pretty much what I expected, it was an 18 person tent and an air mattress, not exactly glamorous, but it was cheap and full of young people. I did enjoy them handing me a free beer when I checked in.
i wasn’t sure what to expect from Oktoberfest, but it was great. They call the beer halls “beer tents” but they were definitely more than that, apparently they start building them in June. You pretty much just get a spot at a table and the waitresses just deliver you 1 Litre steins of beer that you pay for on the spot. It was a lot of fun having a good time with people from my campsite. Each tent is a bit different and serves different beer so it was cool to see a bunch of them. My favorites were Paulener because the band played a good amount of English music, and HoffBreau because they had good beer and the staff had a pretty good attitude.
One day we left in a group of 8 or so people. One guy bought a novelty chicken hat and became our group mascot, you knew the group was moving if you saw chicken head get up, that was pretty funny.
When I was on the subway I met a British couple. We chatted while we waited for our stop, and they asked me for my email so they could reccomend some British things to do when u go back there. We ended up meeting up again in one of the tents and hanging out together for the night. It was super fun, now I’m going to meet them in England later and they’ll show me some cool things to do.
so yeah, overall Oktoberfest was tons of fun and I would definitely do it again. I even go to go see the rest of Munich for a day.
after that much partying and sleeping in a tent, my cough had gotten worse again. I didn’t really want to party much for a while so I decided to go to Kraków, where I am now. I’m going to pull a Budapest here and spend a few days taking it easy and getting better. I’ll definitely see Auschwitz before I leave, not sure where I’m going next though. I’m thinking mabye Düsseldorf or Cologne? Mabye stop for another day in Berlin. One way or another I’m going to start heading west again after this (unless I check out Warsaw first). I want to spend a day or two in Bruges before I go back to the UK.
i don’t have much to say about Kraków yet, I only got here today. This was supposed to be like 3 different posts but now I’m caught up, so I figured I would just merge them.

Sounds like you are having the trip of a lifetime. Enjoying your comments and photos. Hear you may be going to Kiev. If it is on your route, stop in the city of Lviv. France’s and I always enjoyed it, especially the main square.
