I got to spend a day in Berlin for some free time before we moved on. We did a walking tour with a funny Irish guide. He took us to a state of Marx and the other guy who wrote the communist manifesto, then we saw saw building that are now museums, but have been used for a lot of things, including nazi rally spaces. It was crazy, he took us to this square with a huge church and a big museum, then showed us a picture of Hitler being right where we were standing at a rally. That was insane. We toured and looked at more old German buildings. The Reichstag, the Luftawaffe HQ, the site where the SS HQ was, and the site where hitlers bunker was. Our guide was hilarious and described hitters wedding in the bunker before he died.
“so I imagine that’s every girls dream wedding right? Underground… In a bunker… And your marrying Hitler?”
we had a good laugh. I spent the rest of the day exploring more, I went back to the Reichstag to get a picture, and then visited the German history museum. It was interesting to see how the war was presented by the Germans. All the exhibits I’ve seen have been very focus on the physical warfare, ” here’s all the guns and bombs and planes and tanks we used to kill the nazi’s” type stuff. This was much more subdued. It focused a lot more on the propaganda campaigns the nazis ran and how they were able to transform the government and take control. It makes sense after I’d seen it but it was surprising at the time. Then we all went to a night club and got drinks.
Ive never worked my liver as hard as I have these past few days so I took it easy at the club.
today we set off for Prague in the Czech Republic. We stopped in Dresden along the way, so I can technically say I’ve been there. More accurately, I’ve been to a restaraunt in Dresden. It looked really cool though, I might go back. Overall, I think Germany has a lot cooler old stuff than London, London felt very clean, Germany is more gritty. German food is awesome though, curry wurst is amazing.
we arrived in Prague today at about 4:30. We checked out the oldest castle in Europe for about an hour before heading to the hostel for food. That castle was huuuuuuge, there was an amazing church inside that was like 700 years old. So crazy.
ive met a few Aussies on the trip, they needed to be in Munich at the same time I do for Oktoberfest, so were gunna travel together for a few days. We’re thinking Budapest, the back to Amsterdam, then Munich for Oktoberfest. I’m excited. I also met an Irish girl that I’m going to meet up with in Dublin when I go there, so that will be cool.
im just chilling in my hostel right now before we head out to a bar.
